Cuba: Colonial Treasures & Caribbean Coast

7 Days / 6 Nights | Havana – Trinidad – Cienfuegos – Zapata

From Havana’s grand plazas to Trinidad’s cobblestone streets and the turquoise coves of the Bay of Pigs – seven days of colonial history, mountain adventures, and Caribbean beauty.

Day 1 – Havana Arrival & Welcome Evening

Land at José Martí International Airport (HAV). Your private driver greets you – no waiting, no shared vans. Settle into the car for the short ride to your casa particular in Havana.

Welcome to Cuba.

Check into your casa particular – a private homestay where your Cuban host will welcome you like family. A welcome drink and orientation await.

Evening: Dinner at a paladar. Then, if you have energy, choose your night: Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) – Havana’s most dynamic cultural venue – or La Zorra y El Cuervo for legendary jazz, Jazz Café, or Casa de la Música for traditional Cuban rhythms.

Overnight in Havana.

Day 2 – Discovering Old Havana & Classic Cars

Wake up to breakfast at your casa. Then meet your local guide for a walking tour of Old Havana (Habana Vieja) , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll stand in Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de Armas, and Plaza Vieja. Your guide will show you the restoration projects that have brought these centuries-old buildings back to life, and tell you stories of pirates, conquistadors, and revolutionaries.

Afternoon: Lunch at a paladar. Then step into a classic convertible for a tour through Modern Havana, Vedado, and along the Malecón. Stop for photos at Revolution Square, John Lennon Park, and the University of Havana. Feel the wind in your hair as the city rolls by in living color.

Evening: Dinner at a paladar. Then optional: FAC, La Zorra y El Cuervo, Jazz Café, or Casa de la Música.

Overnight in Havana.

Day 3 – Journey to Trinidad & Colonial Charm

Breakfast. Then depart for Trinidad – a 4-hour drive through Cuba’s rural heartland. Watch the landscape change from city to farmland to the distant silhouette of the Escambray Mountains.

Along the way, stop at a roadside agro-market for fresh tropical fruit – mango, papaya, guava – or a privately owned restaurant for a light lunch.

Afternoon: Arrive in Trinidad, a perfectly preserved colonial gem. Check into your colonial-style casa particular. Then join your local guide for a walking tour through the cobblestone historic center – pastel-colored mansions, wrought-iron grilles, and streets that haven’t changed in 150 years. Visit the Museo Histórico Municipal and climb the tower for a panoramic view of the town and mountains.

Evening: Dinner at a paladar. Then let the music carry you – live music at Casa de la Música (steps under the stars) or the intimate Casa de la Trova.

Overnight in Trinidad.

Day 4 – Trinidad: Choose Your Adventure

Breakfast. Today you decide – Caribbean coast or Escambray mountains.

Option A – Caribbean Coast

Transfer to the Ancón Peninsula – a stunning stretch of white sand and turquoise water. Grab your mask and fins for a snorkeling excursion over vibrant coral reefs. Tropical fish, warm water, pure bliss. Want more? Optional boat trip to Cayo Blanco – a pristine cay with powdery sand and crystal-clear shallows.

Option B – Escambray Mountains

Excursion to Topes de Collantes nature reserve. Hike through misty cloud forests to the Caburní waterfall – a 60-meter cascade plunging into natural pools. Swim in cool, fresh mountain water. Along the way, optional visit to a coffee plantation to learn about Cuba’s coffee heritage.

Afternoon: Return to Trinidad. Want to learn to move your hips? Optional salsa lesson arranged at your casa. Then dinner at a paladar.

Evening: Experience the rhythms of the island at Palenque de los Congos Reales – an Afro-Cuban cultural show with drums, dance, and fire.

Overnight in Trinidad.

Day 5 – Cienfuegos & Bay of Pigs

Breakfast. Then depart for Cienfuegos – a 1.5-hour drive to the “Pearl of the South.”

Morning: Panoramic tour of the Punta Gorda peninsula. Stop for photos at the whimsical Palacio de Valle – a palace of Moorish, Gothic, and Venetian influences. Then a walking tour of the historic center (UNESCO site) with your local guide. Admire French-inspired architecture, visit the Terry Theater (optional), and feel the European elegance of this unique Cuban city.

Afternoon: Lunch at a paladar overlooking Cienfuegos Bay. Then drive to the Zapata Wetland (1.5 hours) – one of the Caribbean’s largest and most important ecosystems.

If time permits, visit the Playa Girón Museum – learn the history of the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion. Then, the highlight: swimming and snorkeling at Caleta Buena – a natural cove with abundant marine life. The water is crystal-clear, the fish are colorful, and the setting is pure magic.

Evening: Continue to Havana (approx. 2.5-hour drive). Check into your casa particular. Dinner at a paladar.

Overnight in Havana.

Day 6 – Havana’s Art & Farewell

Breakfast. Enjoy a free morning – your last full day in Cuba.

Option A: Souvenir shopping at the Crafts Market – paintings, leather, wood carvings, musical instruments.
Option B: Visit Fusterlandia – a fantastical mosaic-covered neighborhood created by artist José Fuster. Every wall, bench, and dome that burst with color.

Afternoon: Lunch at a paladar. Then choose your cultural fix: the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes – Cuba’s most important collection of Cuban art, from colonial to contemporary.
